Global search

One field, answered by every active module: publications, documents and calendars, grouped by kind and filtered by the account's privileges.

Searching an admin usually means picking where to search first. Here there is one field, and every active module answers for its own part.

What the field reaches

  • Publications, of every type, on their title as well as the text of their zones.
  • The media library's documents, by name.
  • Calendars, their events and their reminders.
  • Results come grouped by kind, and each one leads to the screen that edits it.
  • Each module contributes its own section: the field knows nothing of the domains it reaches, and a module added tomorrow shows up there untouched.
  • Publications and calendars are filtered by what the account is allowed to see, and reaching the field at all is a privilege of its own.

The text of publications is indexed on save rather than scanned on the fly: searching a thousand pages costs what searching ten costs. And a module that fails returns an empty list instead of taking the whole field down with it.
